Pass the ANCC 5/12/2016

First let me start by stating you can do this!!! I graduated last Aug. and failed the AANP twice. First score was a 485 and the second score was a 497 (passing score 500). My classmates told me to take the ANCC (they stated I am more analytical). I am happy to say I passed the ANCC on 5/12/2016! Here is how my exam was broken down. Heavy on research and Epidemiology! When you study these areas you need to know more than the definition, but how the advance nursing uses this to help patients and the community (if this makes sense). I had only 5 pictures from derm and eye. LAB results were NOT given. I did not have an EKG to interpret, but there was another student that stated she had an EKG. Know Asthma, COPD, JNC8, culture, I had some of peds, some DM, 3 pregnancy questions, 2 tanner type questions, validity questions, billing questions and x ray interpretation.

How I studied:

LEIK: I used this book the most and is a good starting point for the profession part of the exam. The questions were not similar to test questions but any questions is good practice. She does have an app you can download, I think it was 24.99. I would recommend it due it is good to have questions on the go. Her study sessions are great from those that I hear were able to get into the lectures.

FNP Mastery: this is also an app that has questions 24.99. This app is more towards the ANCC . Would recommend especially for the birth control questions (hint).

Fitzgerald: I went to this study session and to be honest all you need is the book from the class. They give way too much information and some of the lecturers were not informative. My lecturer talked about her two clinics. I would recommend from her site for the practice tests, due to she had drop down and drag and drop questions.

EPEA: If you are going to go to study session this is the one to do to! If you cannot go to one you can purchase the whole lecture on line and you do get credit hours (this is what I did). You can print out her notes and review each section twice. Highly recommended!! She offers practice test and a predictor test. These questions were not similar to the ANCC due to they are more towards the AANP.

I also used the Edge practice test. I did purchase 10 tests and took all ten. My scores ranged from 320-386. I read on here that people didn't like this site, I found this site to be helpful even though some of the questions were poorly written and was week on HTN, COPD, and DM. it was heavy on theorist and theories which help and the question were sort of similar of all the tests I took.

I would strongly recommend going to the ANA site and get familiar with Nursing roles, Standards of practice, Quality improvement programs and Risk Management programs. Know what they do their job is and their goals. I also went online and looked for free nursing research test questions and took those exams, as well as epidemiology questions. The more tests you take the better off you are!!!!! I had 2 weeks left and I was completing 200 or more tests questions a night. I had 200 questions on the exam and I finished in 3 hours. I was able to go back and look over the marked questions. I also took a break after the first 100 questions. Keep in mind you are not going to know everything on this test. I found the test questions were fare and it is front heavy with difficult questions (first 20-25).

I hope this helps. I do want to thank Rhonda (you know who you are!) for the prayer she sent me before boards. I read that 4 times before taking the test. God guided me through this exam and through him I passed. I also want to say you can strike out answers on the test to help eliminate distracting answers. You will NOT know if you passed or failed until you get the paper from the testing site. I wish all of you the best of luck and I have all the confidence that you will pass! GOOD LUCK!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!

jw1234,

Thanks for your insight! Did you find the Fitzgerald online portal for Professional Issues helpful for the legal questions?

Not really to be honest..was good for the billing questions

Thank you so much for this information! I will be taking the ANCC soon and this is so helpful!

I do have one question for you-- I have heard mixed reviews on the labs.. Did they give you LAB VALUES on the test or did you have to know them before hand?

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

I'm getting ready to take AANP. Any recommendations specifically geared toward your 2 attempts?

Use the APEA QBank. I think it is geared towards the AANP. I took the AANP and I was unsuccessful. I signed up for the QBank after I failed. I saw many similar types of questions on the actual AANP. I wished I did it before. Pricey, but worth it. Good luck.

I did not have lab results on my exam

know cardiac, derm, ortho and pharm for the AANP.
