Part Time RN Program

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi. I am finishing up my CNA, but am earning far above what a CNA makes at my current full time job. I want to know if anyone knows of part time RN programs here in California. I am most interested in programs in Southern California, but am open to relocating for a part time RN Program. Thanks! ?

I don't know if any are part time, but the BRN has a list of all of the approved programs here:

I have yet to find a part time RN program in California. That would be nice.

They have part time LVN programs though.

Technically, the normal Community College RN programs are part time. You are part time in school, when you take less than 12 units per term and all RN programs I applied to require you to take 2-3 classes per semester or 10-11 units. So at community college you would be going to school part time. I have heard of people who worked full time while earning their RN (a friend of mine currently does it)..

Community Colleges here tell their potential students that the program is fulltime and they do not want you to work. Classes are during the day only and rigorous. That made it hard for me to choose it to apply for.

Community Colleges scare us too. They tell their students "its the hardest thing you have ever done, harder than any science class" blabla... But just look at the credits. It's 10-11 credits per semester if the college doesn't offer winter and summer sessions. I think they just want students to take the program seriously which is a good thing. You should prioritize school over work and be prepared to be very organized and structured if you continue to work (my friend works as a CNA, fulltime, night shifts. No idea, how she manages school and work).

Yeah. I checked one of the Community Collges I am familiar with and each semester has no less that 4 classes and only during the day. I work days so I can not do it. I wish I could. Being Active does not give that option.

Oh well.
