Part time RN/LPN program in Detroit area

This is my first post. I am considering returning to school to study nursing. I already have a Bachelor's and Master's in Social work and a law degree. I actually started off as pre-nursing in undergrad but then got off track (a little:uhoh21: ).

Anyways, I am interested in hospital nursing, patient education in oncology (I am a breast cancer survivor) and/or legal nurse consulting.

I have to keep working at my current gig (FT law job)so I need a program that I can attend on a part-time basis.

I welcome any advice, recommendations, etc. :balloons:

I would (and this is just me) go for the quickest degree I could get....and that might just be an associate that you could bridge to a bachelor's in nursing. IF you want to become a nursing educator then a BSN would be just a starting point. Where you live, how old you are and the length of time you can devote to a program will have to be worked out. Good luck, you are starting on the toughest career you can ever love.

I am in the same boat as you. I'm also going from Social Work to nursing. I've looked into a lot of programs. I'm not sure where you live, but Medical College of Ohio in Toledo has an evening and weekend Associate degree program. Since you already have your Bachelor and Master Degree you already have many of the classes (except the core nursing classes) done, so you'll be part time. Schoolcraft College has an associate program as well that is 3 days per week. I've been told by several colleges that an associate degree in nursing along with a Bachelor Degree in another field will entitle you to move up to management or pursue a master level nursing degree. You don't have to do a second Bachelor nursing program. I've found that most of those programs are either accelerated and full time or it takes 3 years part time. An associate degree program seemed to be the best way to go. I hope this helps. I used this forum to get more info. too. Good Luck.

It depends on how far you're willing to travel, whether you want a bachelor's or associate's program, how long you're willing to wait before starting, when you would be able to attend classes, etc. There is Wayne State University, Schoocraft College, Madonna University, Washtenaw Community College, Oakland Community College, Wayne County Community College, Oakland University, Eastern Michigan University, University of Michigan, University of Michigan - Flint, Henry Ford Community College, Macomb Community College, University of Detroit Mercy...
