Part-Time in the NICU?

I was just curious...are there part-time positions available in the NICU, or usually just full-time? If there are part-time positions, what would a typical schedule be like? Thanks!

I work part time in NICU. I work 12 hour nights and I love it! I work 2 12's a week including every third weekend. This is great because if I work my schedule right I get a long stretch off every month (like 10 days).

Most NICUs offer both part and full time positions. However, if you're just starting out in neonatal, it's recommended to work full time, at least for the first year or so. Many people can't do that, so they do work part time. But it just seems to help nurses a lot to be there full time while they're learning. They just seem more confident, it seems.

I agree completely. The unit I work in offers both full and part time positions. Time and again the nurses who are full time get a grasp on things much faster and are able to work more effectively earlier on. I think it just has to do with the repetition and consistancy of assignments when you work full time. You see more and are exposed to more earlier.
