Are there any Australian RNs reading this who have made up their missing PAEDIATRIC and OBSTETRICS courses required for licensure in USA by doing them at a Community College or University in USA??
I would VERY much like to hear from you, especially re details on where you did this, how long it took, how much it cost ...... will be extremely grateful for any advice/info/help/suggestions.

Hi
I am an Nurse from Germany and was missing Peds and Psych. per CGFNS. It took me a while , but I was finally able to find a University- School of Nursing, where I could take these 2 classes. I only had to enroll for a semester, but I needed the class room hours, as well as the clinical hours. It was not easy and a lot of hard work, but it was worth it.
Let me know, if you needed anything else.
Just did it last year, took the CGFNS test after thtat and than the NClex -RN this Jan. and passed.
many thanks, can you tell me please the University/SON you attended?

I think there would be a lot of schools that would allow you to attend as a "non degree seeking" student and complete the subject (theory and clinical). Of course it would be for the whole term and not just a couple of weeks.
I did the spring semester at University of SC. Applied to the GA BON.
But you might want to also check with some Tech. College. Might be cheaper, if you just need the 2 classes.
Good luck.
Gee I wish I'd heard about this option when I posted my first enquiry last year about ways to make up these missing courses for Australian RN. Anyway....I want to live and work in upstate New York - does anyone have specific info on SoN's in that area where I could do courses in Pediatrics and Obstetrics (both theory and clinical)?? whole term is fine, i would not expect to do it in just a couple of weeks.
Many thanks Sonja123, sorry to be a bore but......could you please clarify....SC??...and also GA??
Hi Casserooni
Sorry....
University of South Carolina and Georgia Board of Nursing.
Let me know, if you need anything else.
Look at community colleges for where you want to live, and you'll have to contact them or check out websites.

hi, I'm an australian nurse also needing to do obstetrics and paediatrics in order to make up hours to meet US standards. I am doing it through Otago Polytechnic University in New Zealand via distance education. The bonus of doing it through these guys is that you can do it as quickly as possible (after you enrol they send you the booklet which you fill out and then send back for marking) so if you want to do the courses asap you can do it in as short a time as you like. the only down side is trying to find clinical placement (2 weeks for each subject) - (i'm tring to find places in melbourne however everyone keeps knocking me back because they dont have a legal agreement with the university).
hope this is helpful - contact the school of nursing if your interested
many thanks ehic2604 - i'm currently doing the courses as distance student with deakin university but like you am having trouble finding clinical placements - no success so far!!
