Oz requirements

Hi people, quick question if you dont mind!

I am going to be a registered nurse soon in the uk and wish to emigrate to australia to live and wok as a nurse as soon as i can.

My question is.. how much experience am i going to need before i become eligible to emigrate as a registered nurse? because i cant seem to find if this is even a requirement, i even read somewhere that once you become a RN in the uk you can apply direct to Oz hospitals and some will sponsor you without experience? is this true?

Thanks for any information in advance!

If you are wanting to immigrate you have to apply through DIMIA. There is a "sticky" thread at the top of this forum with some of the links in the thread.

You will be more successful in getting hospitals to sponsor you for a working visa than for immigration.

Good luck!!

You will have to apply through the QNC here is a copy of the checklist for overseas applicants

http://www.qnc.qld.gov.au/home/content.aspx?content=Registration_&_Enrolment/Applying_for_a_licence/Overseas_applicants

As you see from the list it will be easier if you are already registered in the Philippines. If you are not registered in the Philippines you may be required to prove competence by undergoing a test

License from your country especially in the Philippines is essential if you wanted to be assessed by Queensland Nursing Council. I think its better for you to take the licensure test because they might be asking for your license in Australia. How'd you going to prove that your a licensed nurse from your country if you dont have the license?

Unlike in USA that doesnt require the PRC license, Australia would require the license before they can assessed your competency level.

I agree with gwenith you must be registered nurse, If you are not registered in the Philippines you may be required to prove competence by undergoing a test in Australia.

If you want to proceed why not try to send your application to Queensland Nursing Council first and let them decide on what you should do next. Anyway they will be the ones that will decide on your case, and you got nothing to lose by asking, right?

Hello everyone! I am an RN here at Phils but have already passed CGFNS, IELTS and NCLEX. But what if I am interested to apply in Australia? Geographically speaking, it is much nearer to my country which I find very suitable. So, how do I get started as far as requirements goes? Thanks in advance for your advise.

Where in Australia would you want to work or live?

Victoria (Melbourne)

New South Wales (Sydney)

Queensland (Brisbane and Gold Coast)

Western Australia (Perth)

South Australia (Adelaide)

Tasmania (Launceston and Hobart)

Each state has different requirement like for example in Perth Western Australia you can apply for STNI State Territory Nominated without the IELTS - it is much faster and easier for some who doesnt have all the complete requirements, but since you already have your IELTS with you, just research on which state would you want to live and work first and then we'll try to decide from there.

Once you have decided where you want to live and work, you will write to the Nursing Council of the State to apply for state licensure.

You have 2 options in Australia. working visa - 457 and the general skilled migration path.

Unlike in the US that you need a hospital to sponsor the nurse in Australia you can do it independently without the hospital sponsor. Some prefer the pathway of having an agency or a hospital that will sponsor them. Some would want to do it on the GSM path.

;)

ei ello... i'm quite confused with the GSM path you mentioned i do hope you could explain further? im also interested to work in australia? do i need to have a working experience first of do they hire fresh licensed graduates bnut with no experience yet? im sorry if im off the topic? thanks!

In short you just received your licensed as RN in the Philippines and you're also a fresh graduate.

Sorry but NO they dont hire fresh licensed graduates without experience especially if your from the Philippines.

For as long as you have a valid licence in Australia, you may be able to apply for New Graduate programmes if you do not have experience. :uhoh3: I have heard of someone who got in as a new grad...........just can't recall where in Qld. Best wishes;)

Hi Lavalin

Refer your input that "Sorry but NO they dont hire fresh licensed graduates without experience especially if your from the Philippines".

1. Can you advise us on How many years of work experience in Philippines or in India would be needed by the average nurse in order to get hired in Oz.

2. Do all nurses from Asia HAVE to undergo the Bridiging course? Or do they have a cut off. For example: If you have 1-3 years of work exp. then you HAVE to do the bridging course. And if you have more than 3 year - then it is waived?

3. Cost and details of the Bridiging course.

Thanks

Vivek

One way around the immigration issue with nursing is to apply direct to the hospitals for a position. Many of the hospitals are used to assisting with visa's etc and can expedite a visa.

But the bottom line remains the more experience you have the more "marketable" you are.
