any OR training at school.. help..

Hello everybody,

I am very interested in RN position at OR. I have about 9 months experience on med surg floor.I tried to apply OR training program at many hospitals. But I did not get into it. I did not even get a call for interview.

Is there any university or college that has OR training program?

thanks.

El Centro in Dallas, Texas has one, or at least used to. ???

Look at your local community colleges to see if they offer some.

We train are new nurses from scratch. They are required to be able to scrub and circulate. There are a few hospitals in California that have OR programs, but they are hard to get into. You just have to hang in there and eventually it will happen. Good luck

I have worked on a med surg floor for 3 years. I too wanted to work in the OR since school, but wanted to get some med surg experience before doing so. Finally after 3 years and nurmerous applications for OR positions I finally got in. I am starting an OR internship July 14th and I am so excited about it.

It is hard to get into the OR, b/c there is very little turnover. I think when most people go to the OR they stay there until they die or retire.

Just keep applying and don't give up. It will happen one day. It did for me.

Good Luck!!!!

There are colleges that offer perioperative nursing courses. Just do a Google search for a university in your area that offers it. They're not cheap. If you're lucky you'll find a hospital that offers a training program for new periop nurses. That way you get paid to learn.
