OR Music

What are some of your favorite tunes played in the OR? Many of the Docs bring their I-Pods. I'd like to load some great tunes on mine too. Often they forget theirs or the Fellow/Residant doesn't have one.

:jester:Of course, a few "appropriate" ones would lighten the moment..."Bad to the Bone..." So, any thoughts?

Many docs bring their Ipods and CDs in where I work too...and you can never tell what people will like..one of the docs is this middle aged lady, and she loves rap music.

I told one of the residents that I was going to make him a mix for when he's closing a patient, to speed him along.

We get lots of trauma ie. people driving their car or riding their motorcycles when they're three sheets to the wind and high. "Bad to the Bone" is a good one, actually!:banghead:

Our docs use either ipods or internet radio. Most will agree to play different music as long as you do not play what they do not like. Ie. one will not allow country to be played, one will not allow any kind of ballad, one will not allow any rap or hip hop. Most will oblige with simply asking nicely.

We have satellite radio which is pretty good unless it's twangy country or elevator music.

Just my personal observations...orthopods seem to prefer metal/heavier rap, plastics guys prefer 80's or techno, hearts prefer classic rock or country, general same as hearts - classic rock or country. Maybe it's just the hospitals where I worked, but that seemed to be the common themes.

You guys are great! Thanks for the input. I also learned that there are some OR mixes on iTunes. Some are a much graffic, but there are some really cute ones. I'll post the ones I pick, meanwhile, keep letting me know!

Kaycee that is funny that you made that observation because another nurse and I were just talking about the same things the other day. I think you nailed it! Hahahah usually the plastics guys have the best music...to me anyway. 80's, alternative, rap, techno, rock, they are the artsy ones and are usually pretty neat people to talk to and it's funny that their music goes right along with them. I knew one that made his own little speaker set up and welded it all together put a handle on the top of it and would bring it into the room and attatch his i-pod and we would JAM OUT!!! It was soooo loud...the circulators hated it but we had a grand time sitting there for 2 hours while doing a nerve graft on a hand. Sometimes it just gets so stressful and tedious that you need something else to concentrate on...especially if you are holding two skin hooks for 2 dang hours.

We have 2 guys (father and son general surgeons) that will not allow you to play music and one day a couple of months ago Baby (as we call him. The son) brought in a CD and we didn't notice that he had loaded it into the player and all of the sudden Beyonce started jamming out and he was actually dancing!! Hahahahahah what a treat! I LOVE MY JOB!!!
