Sorry I didn't get back with you on your other threads but I couldn't find anyone that had information about Alcorn's program. How about Southern? I got my Bachelor's there in another field but always heard good things about the nursing program. Have friends who were in the program and did well.

I'm going to start USM's BSN program in the fall, pending acceptance. I know one student in the program now and he LOVES it. USM was chosen to participate in a nationwide study relating to clinicals (don't know all the details). Only 10 schools were chosen nationwide, so I think that says something about the nursing program. The deadline for admission is Feb 1 for the fall 2012 class. Have you thought about UMC, William Carey or JCJC?

I'm starting at Meridian Community College in the spring. I wouldve applied to USM but I need more prerequisites,in which I dont want to take at the moment.

I start PRCC's ADN program in the spring, I have two friends at USM's nursing program. They don't hate, but they don't love it. This whole not hiring ADN RN's is a farce. It depends on where you live, some bigger hospitals might try to enforce it but no rule has been set in stone. It's just like the MSN vs. DNP thing they've been saying for years. Don't put too much stock in it.

ADN's are getting jobs. If nothing else, you can get a lot of classwork out of the way, it will be less expensive than a 4 year university, and you can take a bridge program later. That's just another option. As long as you begin your education process, you are progressing.

So far I've only applied to one nursing school, Alcorn. Can anyone give me any other options in Mississippi please? I'm afraid to do a adn program because of all this talk that hospitals will not be hiring adn nurses in a year or two. Any suggestions?

These schools all have BSN programs; but you don't have to start there. You can always get your ADN and bridge over. I got my LPN in 2009, ADN 2010, and BSN 2011. You can do it:)

Sorry it took so long! but aweeee I'm sure you'll get in. where else did you apply? I met a graduate of USM's program from last year and she loved it as well. I am lacking two credits for their program. UMC said I had the wrong chemistry's for their program and William Carey, I just have to take their test. Idk what JCJC is but I will be applying at Holmes and Mississippi College (this is really my last option because it is soo expensive). Alcorn is my first choice though.

@Zakry and @Doomsayer Thanks that is some great advice and MUCH cheaper. My ex roommate wants to be a nurse and graduated about 2 years ago and refuses to go into an adn program. She feels as though its below her since she has a BS degree. Me on the other hand, I feel as though its the same education, and the key word being EDUCATION. My brother always told me, you pay for the name more so than the education.

@Eagle2110 awee i didn't know that! Aren't you excited? thats exciting! I understand not wanting to take those other courses. I promise I can only take biology if I pay for it out of pocket and I seriously do not have 500 to pay for that while paying MC this summer.

@west1014 Wow!! you were mighty busy but I never thought of taking that route and when it did come to mind I thought it would take about two years for each one. Now i'm REALLY considering Holmes lol.
