Operation Room

I hear a lot about how being a nurse in the OR is way better than in other parts of the hospital. Can anyone tell me more details what an OR nurse does? is it competitive to get the job? and do OR nurses stay in the OR all the times?

from my own experience, I do not think it is easier than working in other parts of the hospital. It is just different. depending upon your personality, the OR may be difficult to handle. It can be monotonus at times. As to getting the job, yes it is competitive, but some hospitals offer training programs for new nurses. I work in the OR only. If you have the chance do a clinical day in the OR or shadow an OR nurse for a couple of days. Being an OR nurse, you gain new skills, but you may also lose profiency in other skills.

I agree with micco. Why don't you check under the Specialty tab instead of Forums. There is a section for Operating Room there. It may have alot more information for you.
