Open House for CRNA program

One of the local programs is having one next month. Have any of you been to them? What goes on? Is it worth going if I'm still a few years away from applying, or should I wait until the year I'm actually going to go? I'm a new nurse, and they require two years of experience, so I won't be eligible until fall of 2011.

Never too early to start getting all the info to fully prep for the application process- you may be able to apply in 2010 for start of school 2011 (2 yrs experience at that point - some schools look at it that way). good luck :wink2:

Absolutely go and get as much info as you can. Be frank about your credentials and find out what they are looking for in an applicant. They will likely tell you right out if the ICU you are in is good enough, etc. But treat it like a preliminary interview, friendly, respectfull, enthusiastic, dress for the part, but don't overdress, you might ask the secretary what people will be wearing. The open house will likely include a tour of the OR, so you might have to change into scrubs or put on a bunny suit. You will also likely get a chance to speak with current students and since you don't even have an application in yet, I would take it as an opportunity to ask the students everything and anything. You especially want to know what the clinical rotations and the instructors are like.

OK - I suppose at the least, I can call the RSVP number and let them know I'm not a candidate for next year's class. If they encourage me to attend regardless, and if I can get the day off, I think I'll try to make it. I met with the director of this particular program last year (I gave my e-mail at their booth at a job fair, and her secretary e-mailed to see if I'd like the chance to learn more about the program), and it wasn't too early to start gathering information then. Thanks!

Could you please tell me who is having an open house? Don't know if I missed it but I am always interesting in open houses. I live in the northeast. Thank you for the info I really appreciate the help.
