Online RN - canada

I am taking the LPN to BN program through Athabasca. I do live in Alberta but I lot of the students that are taking it don't. You do need to be registered as a LPN in Alberta but this isn't really a problem as you can be registered in two provinces at once. You will need to come to Alberta 3 times for the practicums. Two are 1 month each and one is about 2 weeks. The last practicum which is three months can be done anywhere in Canada with a preceptor. I know some of the students in Alberta are offering others from out of province a place to stay while doing these practicums. Or they are rooming together, etc. Two of my Alberta placements are within 10 minutes of my house and the shorter one is about an hours drive away. So I'm pretty happy about that.

I am takin BScN in Ryerson (Toronto), but thinking to change the university to Athabaska. I have to work, so I would like to have more flexibility. I have to come to Alberta for one clinical practice(one month) and I have no idea how to find a place to stay. Athabaska does not help with it.

If sombody from Toronto taking Athabaska program, please contact me.

Hi Edmonton i found your advice very helpful since i am interested in the PN/RN program in Athasbaca, i have lots of question i would be grateful if you could take your time to answer some of them. I am presently living and working as LPN her in Alberta for the past 2 years, but will be moving to Toronto in the next two years . My questions are, is there any particular deadline to apply for the program? do you have to submit your transcript by yourself or the schools you attended have to send it directly to Athabasca since some of my transcript are not from Canada. I have two years of University education in social sciences ( Sociology & Anthropology), i also did English, statistics and lots of social sciences subjects in the University, will that eliminate some of my electives/ prerequisite?, in other word will i be awarded credit for those. Also will they give me credit for my A&P from LPN school?. After how long of starting of the program did you start your clinicals? Can one do the last 3 months of the clinical in another province? How much is the total cost of this program?. Thanks so much in advance.

Sorry to bother you with so many question. Is LPN certificate acceptable at Athabasca because that is what i have with two years university education in Sociology and Anthropology.

kelseya, you need to address many of your questions directly to Athabasca. Their registrar is in a much better position to provide you with information such as whether your credentials will be accepted, if your previous course work will be credited (generally speaking if they're older than 7-10 years, they won't be) and who submits transcripts. As for the cost, that information is readily available on their website, but you do have to do a little bit of math. From what I understand admission is open, meaning you can start whenever you want. And your question about where the final three month practicum can be done was already answered in EdmontonAB's post.

I just have a quick question. I registered for the program today and pay $100 for the evaluation of our LPN

certificate, i am not sure if i am supposed to pay for the transcript evaluation since its a requirement and we're being given 30 credit for the LPN license. Did you pay $100 for your LPN transcript to be evaluated? I have a license LPN in Alberta. Thanks again for your time.

First thing I would do is learn to spell the University's name correctly.

Athabasca is on-line and there are forums for the students to meet and discuss issues with course work, etc. Each course usually has a discussion forum (at least the Arts ones). You might be able to track down a roommate that way. It's that or contact the municipality where the clinical will be. I know someone who basically stayed in a hotel in a small town because that was all there was. The clinicals won't all be in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge but places like Fort Mac, High Prairie, etc.

Hi rinks20120. I just registered for this program and still waiting for them to send me the package. I have three kids, my husband is also going back to school. Right now i am the only one working and can't do the traditional class room studies. Will let you know when i have more information. If you get any info, don't hesitate to let me know.
