I keep reading threads where people are suggesting ONENOTE. Can you give your opinion and in a nutshell how its beneficial and the use???

I may wanna get on the bandwagon as well:)

I like evernote. It can be helpful with a digital pen.

I don't know if you have an iPad, but if you do you can try it out for free. Hands on experience is the best. I like it because its like a binder. You title you notebook and then can add sections to it. It easy to insert pictures or even whole or partial power points. And you can use a pen to draw or label! It's really just a great application for me

OMG I LOVE ONE NOTE. I really can't believe more people don't utilize it / know about it. This is something I just wrote on someone else's post:

"If you are a type-your-notes kind of person and like the idea of having all of your papers in one place, check out Microsoft OneNote. It is a program designed for college students that is an electronic binder system. I create one binder for each semesters, and then individual tabs for each class. Each lecture gets its own page (I am even able to group them by exams). I am 100% paperless - if a teacher gives a handout I scan it and put it into OneNote. It is so amazing NOT to have to lug binders around! Another great feature is OneNote saves to the cloud, so I can access it from my phone, so if I find myself unexpectedly stuck somewhere, I can take out my phone and study. It changed my life when I discovered this program when doing my pre-reqs."

You can also insert hyperlinks, cut paste pictures, COLOR COORDINATE, basically everything Word can do, is incorporated here. Be paperless is LIBERATING! This is a video I found on youtube that explains how it works.

It is a hard program to explain until you see it in action. It is so much better than saving notes into Word and having to open multiple documents just to study... everything is in one place. Let me know if you have any other questions, I will be happy to answer them.

Nice! I have that on my new laptop but wasn't sure what it was. I'll definitely be using it after that explanation!

I have heard you can import Power Points into One Note and type on them. Does anyone happen to know how to do this?

You can save a Powerpoint to your harddrive, make the changes you want and then insert a hyperlink right in OneNote (so you can open the file right in the program), but you can not import them. In the past, I have taken a screen shot of a power point slide(s) and inserted them as pictures, but you can't edit them.

Thanks for the reply. That would explain why I could never figure out how to import the power points. LOL

You can "print" anything to OneNote that you can to a regular printer, you just select "Send to OneNote" in the print options instead of the hardware printer.

That said, OneNote saved my life. It's the only thing that got me through my first semester.

This is just a snapshot of my OneNote currently. I'm TERRIBLE with organizing physical folders; it takes them a week to get jumbled up with loose papers all over my car, desk, etc. I'm with EBailey and went paperless, and it's AMAZING. I've never had everything in one place in my life. I have a tablet that can be "written" on, combined with OneNote it's been worth its weight in gold.

On the "view" tab at the top click "send to OneNote took" then open your Internet page, word doc, excel or PowerPoint and bring up your send to one note tool. There select "send to OneNote" it in the middle. It will this ask you how you want it placed it your notebook.

I use OneNote as well as my note taking program on my computer and it can do almost everything that I need it to do. The reason that I say "almost" is because I have the 64-bit version of Windows 7. My version of OneNote is the 2007 version and the driver that is used to send things to OneNote is not compatible with the 64-bit operating system. It is however very compatible with the 32-bit operating system. My computer at home has the 32-bit operating system… So you can see where I might have a problem.

I had to find a workaround for it and that was simply using dropbox to store the file and that way I can make changes on one computer and it will show up on the other. How did I get that to happen? I used Remote Desktop to remote into my home computer and print to OneNote using the "send to OneNote" and shortly thereafter it would show up on my laptop and then I could use OneNote as it was designed to be used. From my understanding the 2010 version of OneNote does not have that 64-bit incompatibility problem.

Using my workaround, I printed to one note documents from Word, Excel, PowerPoint, webpages, and so much more. I don't have a tablet so I can't use it to write on things as if I had a pen or a pencil. One of my former classmates did have a convertible notebook that could convert between tablet and laptop, with a touchscreen so he could use a stylus to actually write on the OneNote pages. That set up worked really well for him.

As someone else has posted here before, OneNote really can make a big difference in keeping something organized. The way I did it, I had separate tabs for each unit that we covered in school, followed by individual pages within that for each subject/lecture. The next class I took, I just simply made an entirely new OneNote file and organized in the same way as before. If I needed something scanned into one note, I could just use my scanner and imported as any other document.

Can you tell that I really like OneNote? When I can use it, it's absolutely fantastic!
