i've done weekend oncall for a year now for a south atlanta, GA for profit agency. I start at 5p on friday and i'm on til monday 8am. I have a backup nurse, should two emergencies or deaths occur at the same time. im salaried, which works well--on a good weekend, i may be out for 8 hrs the whole weekend---on a bad weekend, i may be out for 60 hrs. I can usually go for about 14-16 hrs, before i just need a few hour break...once i get to hour ten, i'll call my backup and let her know it's been bad, to give her a heads up to lay down for a few hours until I just can't go any further...
Id rather do on call weekend than be a m-f case manager. I'm good at handling situations as I have 10 yrs hospital/critical care setting and 4yrs hospice.
i go in on monday morning to turn in paperwork and give report
The hospice I work is M-F 8-430 salary. Then I have to cover one night (between Monday and Thursday) from 4:30 p.m.-8a.m. for call. That is 60additional pay. If I get called out, I subtract those hours from my usual 40 during the week. I am on call one weekend a month right now from friday at 4:30 p.m.-8a.m. Monday and get 300 for the wknd in addition to the salary. I work in Wisconsin. If you have further questions, email me.
