Attention private duty nurses
Hi...I am a PDN in WI. I use a billing agency, one that I trust (very important). As far as what forms you need...that depends. Is there a case mgr for each of your patients? If not, there are several forms you need (toss me an email and ill try to help ya with those). I am certified or approved with medicaid and how often I see my patients and how many hours I spend with them all depends on how many "units" they are approved for. As far as billing other insurance companies, you first have to become a provider for them (at least in WI) which means getting paperwork filled out and sent in for approval for each one, takes almost 3 months for some to approve you, if they do. Not sure if I helped you at all, but feel free to msg me and ill give you any info or help I can. Best of luck!

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!

Going from hospice to Med-Surg
I dont live anywhere near you so I can't help you with job info. But why are you leaving hospice? I have always been a medsurg nurse and I am quitting there and starting hospice in 4 weeks, so curious as to what you feel you are lacking or why you want the change? Just nervous in WI.

Travel nurse workload vs. staff nurse
We have had travel nurses come and sign on by us for 4-13 weeks at a time. As a nurse in the report room, we do not give the traveling nurse more patients or harder ones typically. If we need a travel nurse, the last thing we want to do is make it miserable for her so she doesn't ever come back. We are just happy to have the help and treat them fairly.....at least where i work!

Advice for new hospice nurse (previous med-surg nurse)
Hi there, I have been a med-surg nurse ever since I became a nurse about 7-8 years ago. I enjoy med-surg nursing, however love taking the end-of-life patients the most. I don't like how the end-of-life patients are taken care of at the hospital that I work at and recently put together comfort care standing orders and an end-of-life care folder that is in the process of being reviewed by the chief of staff. I am one of the most liked nurses at our hospital by patients and their families. However, I have always wanted to do hospice nursing. Well, I was just offered a job as a hospice nurse, and I need to accept or decline the job offer on Monday. The pay is better (which doesn't really matter to me if I enjoy what I'm doing), I have to take call one night per week and one weekend per month. My caseload will consist of 8-15 patients. I live about 1 hour from the main office but was informed most of my clients will be in MY area. I was told I only need to come to the office on Wednesdays for meetings and at least one other time during the week as long as I am able to get paperwork in on a daily basis, even fax is okay. The problem is I am a single mom and have built seniority at the hospital and have a day shift position with e.o weekend. If I quit the hospital, and things don't work out with hospice, I have to return to 3rd shift if I want to work there again and work up the ladder to first shift (which would take years). I truly believe hospice is my calling, my purpose in life but am scared I won't be able to cut-it. I have NO IDEA about the paperwork and am simply scared to step out of the comfort zone I have built at the hospital. Has anyone else been in this position? Been a med-surg nurse for awhile and then changed to hospice? Any advice is appreciated, good or bad! I believe OUR FINGERPRINTS DONT FADE FROM THE LIVES WE TOUCH and that I would be a damn good hospice nurse, but I am scared walking in and starting over, not knowing anything. PLEASE HELP ASAP, I have to decide within 2 days! Thanks!!!

When a patient dies
I cope by remembering this "The fingerprints dont fade from the lives we touch" Believe that, as it is SO true. And if death didn't bother you, its time you found a different profession. I feel better knowing I gave my patient someone they could open up to, I provided them with dignity and comfort and they knew I was only a pager away if something really wasn't right. Thats more than most family members offer. Be true to yourself and remember "our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch."

On call nurse
The hospice I work is M-F 8-430 salary. Then I have to cover one night (between Monday and Thursday) from 4:30 p.m.-8a.m. for call. That is 60additional pay. If I get called out, I subtract those hours from my usual 40 during the week. I am on call one weekend a month right now from friday at 4:30 p.m.-8a.m. Monday and get 300 for the wknd in addition to the salary. I work in Wisconsin. If you have further questions, email me.

New Grad in Hospice
Hi all, I have been a nurse for about 8 years and have worked in a small hospital on the med-surg floor since day one. I have learned alot! Everyday I learn something! I just got offered a hospice case mgr position. I work in central WI. The hospice job pays more than my hospital job. I just wanna offer the advise that any good company will make sure you have the resources you need to learn and become a great nurse. They don't waste 10-30K on orientation to have you quit. They will help you with whatever you need IF you are not afraid to ask for HELP/ADVICE. good luck!

Forms for PDN. HELP!!!!
Hi! I am a PDN in WI and I have forms that I have made up. Mine are not on a computer but contact me and I wouldn't mind sharing. The local printer here makes mine and makes them carbon copy (a must need for PDN in WI) unless you do computer charting.
