I was wondering if any career changers out there have had any problems finding jobs once they graduated from their programs? I know jobs are still tight, but would my age work against me (over 55 once I graduate with a BSN)? Thanks for any feedback!

I am 45 I graduated as a diploma RN May 2008. I did not have a problem getting a job, finding my niche right now is my problem. Starting my 3rd job, you will probably will have to start with night shift. Good luck.

Your age will work for you.

But understand, it's not a great time to be graduating from nursing right now.

Things will improve over the next few years, and then progressively get better for a good spell.

In the past few years, I've worked with several new grads that were 45 years old and older. They didn't seem to have issues finding a job. Some employers also think older employees are more mature and responsible.

It depends. I am over 50 and a new nurse. Here in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area, I definitely saw some age discrimination. I don't want to go into details in a public forum. But other institutions did not seem bothered by my advanced age. LOL Just keep applying and someone will soon see the beauty of your years of wisdom. :)
