OHSU Accelerated BSN 2016

Hello! Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum. I've been looking for months to see if anyone has started a thread about applying to OHSU's ABSN program for 2016, and couldn't find anything (just a thread for the traditional BSN). So I thought I'd start one!

I finished my Nursing CAS application in November, and just updated with my fall term grades last week. So now I'm anxiously awaiting contact!

A little about me and my app:

I come from a social science background, and have worked in the non-profit sector for the last 7 years. I'm a Portland native, and am currently working as a birth doula. I volunteer in a NICU, and I have a 17 month old son. My cumulative GPA is 3.96, and I still need to complete A&P III and Statistics (winter term) and Microbiology (spring term). I did ask OHSU if not having all the prerequisite complete at the time of application would affect my chances, and they said that it wouldn't (so hopefully that's the case!).

I'd love to hear from other applicants, so please feel free to post a little about yourself!

Hello! I have been searching these threads for months to see if anyone has posted. Glad to see you started one.

I have also applied to the ABSN at OHSU for 2016. I don't have high hopes about getting accepted, but figured I would try anyways. I have my B.S. in Psychology, and I think NCAS calculated my GPA as a 3.9. I have a 4.0 in all of my pre-reqs. The only course I need to finish is microbiology which I am currently enrolled in. I volunteer on a med-surg floor at OHSU, but don't have any real medical experience.

It sounds like your stats will definitely get you accepted into the program! Good luck to you!

Sorry, I just saw your post! It sounds like you have a great application. :) I'm wondering why there haven't been any more posts about the AccBacc program this year... Maybe I'm missing them? Last year's thread was like 15 pages long!

I was wondering the same thing! I haven't been able to find any threads. I wonder when they begin calling in applicants for interviews? I read on the website that the interviews are March 4th and 5th. Also, do you know if they still do group interviews?

I did ask OHSU if not having all the prerequisite complete at the time of application would affect my chances, and they said that it wouldn't (so hopefully that's the case!).

My lab partner in micro was already accepted for the 2015 OHSU ABSN program in Ashland. There was another guy in there as well who had a slot for the summer start. So I'm thinking that it may be the case

From the thread last year, it looks like people were notified around Feb. 14th. They said they had an hour to do the proctored essay, and then there was a group interview with five candidates. No one got asked the same questions. Have you ever done a proctored essay? I'm looking for some tips and/or good websites to look at for practice!

Hi! I just stumbled upon this and realized what a great resource it can be. I have also applied for OHSU's 2016 ABSN program. I'm not going to lie, you guys have terrified me with your near perfect GPAs. Mine is 3.60 from my degree holding institution, however I took a lot of college classes in high school and the grades didn't matter as much back them. With those added in my overall cumulative is 3.49. I have a BA and a BS from OSU. I'm nervous but very hopeful that I get the opportunity to take this next step in my education.

Hi aronstel! Thanks for chiming in. What are your previous degrees? Do you have a specific area of nursing that you're most interested in?

Hi Delfena, my BA is in history and my BS is in biology. I work in Surgical Oncology now at OHSU I have always been interested in oncology, OR nursing or working in the ED. Do you have an area of specific interest?

It sounds like you have a great background for the program! I wish I had more direct medical experience. My main area of interest is labor and delivery, but I'm also interested in NICU and mother/baby. I'm thinking about potentially going for a CNM degree down the line, but I wanted some hands-on experience first.

The program feels so competitive, its enough to make you doubt yourself! Its hard to stand out among such high caliber applicants, but I'm really hopeful. Dedicating yourself to a CNM degree is really impressive. I'm interested in getting my masters eventually, but I want a few years of clinical practice to be sure it is the best fit for me as well. Hopefully we only have a few weeks of not so patiently waiting to hear if we've made the cut. Good luck!
