Hey everyone,
It has been a long time since I posted anything here. I have just been offered a job as a home health RN. This is a new field for me. I have ten years of experience in Med/Surg in a large hospital. They are offering me an hourly rate of 28.75 (which is a lot less than I was making as a Med/Surg RN), but w/o the politics of the floor. They are also offering me PPV as follows. Both offers are with benefits and 0.56 mile. This is in WV. What do you guys think. My goal is to see 7 patients a day once I get going, is this feasible? Thanks for your input.

I can do 7/day, and am considered a high producer with my agency, but not on a routine basis. My average is 6. With each additional visit, the follow up increases exponentially it seems.
OTOH I read about high visit rates on this board.
Can't speak to the wages as I'm in California but I would say you're looking at roughly 80-85K/year.

This roughly matches our company's pay schedule, and I find it just fine. We have clunky software and only manage about 5 visits per day, so much less income. In our part of the world? Plenty of money to get along with.
Libby,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to the board. Thank you so much for your input. I am not sure how you came up with 80-85K/year... If so that is more than I was making as a floor RN. How did you come up with that?
Happy Holidays to everyone!

$45/visit x 7 visits/day x 5 days/week x 52 weeks/year = $81,900.
That said, I don't think as a pay per visit nurse you can count on getting 7 visits/day every day. I think 7 visits/day is a lot. 5-6 is more typical for a full-time nurse.
There are pros/cons to both forms of compensation. Is the hourly rate they offered you for 8 hrs/day? Like you'll be given some time for documentation at the end of the day and it will really be more of a salary form of compensation/you'll get 8 hrs/day whether you see 7 patients or 4.
I think you make out better in the long run as salary because if you do 7 visits/day getting paid per visit and one visit takes you 2 hours and you get stuck in an hour's worth of traffic between 2 patients and one isn't home (leading you to not be paid for the visit or to be paid something like $10 or $15) as show up pay, then you have to go home and spend your own time documenting because part of "pay per visit" is that you get the flat rate for everything involved in the visit including documenting, calling MDs, etc.
