NVCC to Mason

Published

I have a question about the nursing programs at NVCC. I couldn't get much help from Advisors/Friends.

(I'm a sophomore at Nova)

So does NAS 161/162 transfer to Mason if you are doing a traditional program.

Also. If you do get the Nursing degree from Nova (not Momentum), can you still transfer to Mason for the last year (similar to the last year for Momentum)

I'm asking this because I have some classes done, and I don't wish to join Momentum if I will end up having semesters containing only 4 credits just because i already have the other classes done.

Hi there!

I just went to NVCC's website, and as long as you intend to get your RN and complete your ADN with NVCC, taking NAS 161/162 is fine. If your goal is to transfer and NOT complete your RN degree, you should take the sequence BIO 141, BIO 142, BIO 205 OR BIO 231, BIO 232, BIO 205 to transfer in to Mason. I'm planning to do the RN to BSN bridge (which only takes a year) through VCU once I'm done at NVCC. I'm not sure if Mason offers something similar, but it's something to look into. Lots of schools offer them if Mason doesn't, and a lot of them are online. I don't know much about the Momentum program, but now that most schools offer the RN to BSN bridge, I'm not sure that option is as appealing as it once was. Hope this helps!

If you are in the Momentum program they have to accept the 161/162. Otherwise, you need 141/142 and 205. Good luck!

No. "NAS 162 & NAS 162 (8 credits) at NVCC will fulfill the requirements for Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology ONLY for students who currently hold a RN license." This is taken directly from a sheet they pass out at the information sessions. This should be included in their online information session for the Traditional program, but it's not. In other words, it's only for students who complete their nursing degree with NVCC, take boards, and transfer to GMU.

Yes, that is exactly what I am doing. I just graduated from NVCC's traditional nursing program and I am in the process of applying to GMU's RN to BSN program starting this fall. I was told by a representative at the information session that they basically consider ALL the new grads momentum transfers.

I chose not to do the Momentum 2+1 program because it would have slowed me down significantly. Had I applied to it, I would have been in your shoes. I had already completed the majority of the General Studies degree requirements as well as all of the pre-reqs and co-reqs for the nursing program, so I would have had an entire year before starting the actual nursing program (NUR classes). I applied for the traditional program, just graduated, finishing my AA degree this summer, and hope to start the RN to BSN program in the Fall. And from what I was told through GMU, the people who are a part of the Momentum 2+1 program have no advantage over me when applying, because we are all considered Momentum 2+1 at this point.

Hi everyone. I just applied to the momentum nursing program at Nvcc. Has anyone else applied? I was wondering how you did on your teas test and what your GPA is? I'm nervous. Ive been going to Nvcc for 3 years know and I'm graduating this summer with my general associates. My gpa is 3.259 I got 92, 83, and 78 on my teas. If anyone is in the program can u tell me what chance I have of getting in? I had a gpa of like 3.8 in high school and I'm worried that I might not get in bc I'm completing with high schoolers. I have most of the prq done.
