Nursing in UK

Published

I am a canadian nursing student due to graduate with my BSN in a couple of years. I'm looking to start working straight away in the UK. ( I am an english citizen, so getting a work permit is not an issue). Does anyone know an agency that will take a newly graduated student?

Thanks

You will need to get yourself registered with the nursing and midwifery council, you may well have to undertake an overseas nursing program as well as your qualification is from outside the EU. Once registered the best place to look for employment is through the NHS jobs website, this is where all NHS jobs are listed. As a UK citizen as you say a work permit will not be a problem, however it is worth bearing in mind as a new grad with no experience you will be in competition with students that have trained within the NHS and already have experience of how the health service works in the UK.

I am not sure about agencies, but you will find some on a google search, the agencies and hospital nurse banks I have had contact with have all required experience post qualification before they will give you work.

Hope this is helpful

Agree with Sharrie, likelihood of agency taking you with no experience is poor. Expect NMC to take a few months one you have graduated as you need a complete set of transcripts and license so may as well get a job and gain some experience.

Thank-you both!
