Dear Nurse Beth,
I'm a CNA/phlebotomist that just started nursing school and I've been trying to get into a hospital career for 3 years. I have assisted living experience, and have had several applications "under review", but have never been called for an interview. What can I do to get into a hospital?
It's a great plan to work as a CNA while you're studying nursing. Later on you will have definite advantage when it comes to getting hired as a new grad RN.
You should have better luck landing a job as a CNA in a hospital now that you are in nursing school. Be sure nursing student†is prominent on your resume.
The problem could be your resume if you are not landing interviews. Check and have someone else help you check your resume for grammar and spelling, overall visual appeal and pertinence. Read How do I get a job in acute care?†for resume tips.
Are any of your classmates working in the hospital? They may know of openings or put in a good word for you.
Ask your nursing instructors to let you know of any job leads, and let them know your plans.
Best wishes,
Nurse Beth

Great advice. Sometimes volunteering in facility you's like to work can be a springboard to learning about job openings.
Best wishes breaking into profession.
