nursing in the states

First, please clarify, did you graduate from an RN or LVN/LPN school and did you take the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-LVN/LPN?

Any questions on the NCLEX-RN are geared towards the practicing RN. Therefore if you felt that they were geared towards an LPN you should have been able to answer them. The LPN is not schooled as long as the RN and has less assessment and evaluation training. They are skilled and important nurses and I work with some of the best, but their NCLEX is very different, I took the test half way thru nursing school for my RN as a practice test and I found it to be much less complex than the NCLEX RN. The NCLEX-RN has more questions pertaining to care planning and evaluation, as well as discharge planning and community health.

Maybe you can buy some of the books that prepare you for the test. They have sample questions with rationals that help prepare you for the exam. There are also seminar classes held over 2-3 days that you can attend to help you. Contact your school or a local college for information.

I trained in england and our nursing exam is not done on the computer and is not multichoice. We mainly have 3 levels of nurses, RN healthcare workers, who's role differes from hospital to hospital, but basically they can do dressings, bm's ( blood sugars), bp tpr. and auxillaries, who again differ from hospital to hospital but generally do washes, feeding and general running around.

I have a Mosby review book but found that the questions asked on the nclex is totally different to what was actually asked .

I didn't find anything in there about LPN's which is why I have posted this question.

I think what Anna meant was that she has come across some of the delegation questions- regarding the LPN. Who would you assign which pts to, or that sort of thing. Anna, to find out about the scope of practice for the LPN/LVN you can look at some of the states board of nurisng web sites. The problem is that the scopes are very different for each state- but the NCLEX is a national exam. So it will be pretty generalized int he scope. I think the Saunder's review book has a section on the scope of the LPN, but I can't remember. Good Luck!
