Nursing Shifts?

What are the usual types of nursing shifts in a hosptial?

Anything and everything you can imagine. Traditionally 8 hour shifts for example 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am......each would have perhaps a 30 minute overlap for report etc. There are places that have 12 hour shifts 7a-7p, 7p-7a. Some places will allow nurses to split shifts or schedules eg: 2 nurse splitting one full time position. Four hour shifts, 6 hour shifts....anything imaginable has probably been tried somewhere. In hospitals most nurses will work weekends, but not all. There are some weekend only options, some weekday only options. Some nurses may only work 1 or 2 shifts a month.
