Nursing schools that don't require pre-reqs?

Published

Does anybody know of any nursing schools in North Central Florida that don't require pre-reqs? Where I can enter an accelerated program or something?

All legit nursing programs should have prereqs even accelerated programs make you take them while in the program Nursing school is hard There is no easy way about it

I have never heard of a program without the prerequisites....unless there's one that you get accepted to without having them completed then do them within your regular nursing curriculum.

One way or another you will have to take the classes. I am sure each program is accredited because they line up with what is taught...which includes prerequisites.

If you're talking about getting in to a program that is all in one package (like some of the proprietary schools) then the answer is yes. But these schools make you take Sociology, Psychology, English, Anatomy and Physiology, Micro and so on.

The reason there is no nursing school that would be pre-req free is because the curricula of each school must meet the standards set by the state boards of nursing. You might be able (theoretically) to find an operation that will only put you through nursing courses... but there is no State Board of Nursing in the USA that would permit you to sit for the Boards.

Someone posted earlier today about some for-profit trade school offering ADNs without prereqs, but basically it's that they roll it all into their program, so you get to pay for everything at their astronomical rate, take just as long, and get a second-rate education. Sounds like a win!

I would be extremely leery of hiring a grad of ANY program without prerequisites, as a nurse manager. Is that who you want caring for your loved ones? Most of these schools have poor NCLEX pass rates and very high drop out rates, often because people can't afford to stay. The schools don't care, because they're making money hand over fist. That's certainly not where I'd want my money going, and not where I'd want to learn about not killing people.

There is no fast and easy way in nursing. There is a reason for that. You have people's lives in your hands every single day. This is a very important job. There is lots to learn. Accelerated programs don't exist because you need to learn how to do these things properly. When people come on here and ask these questions I feel like they just want a fast way to make some money and don't think about what is all involved in nursing. I am not saying someone has to have a "calling" like many people think, I just think they need to understand why the schooling is important and what they need to do to get into a program. Getting into nursing school is very difficult and it is competitive. Nursing school itself is very hard. It is not easy. If this is something you don't want to spend time on, then maybe it is not for you.
