Nursing School Terrors

Published

I am a freshman in college. Finals week approached, family issues, money issues. STress. Stress. Stress. I have never been one for doing anything bad. I am somewhat of a goody two shoes. I have a 3.9 GPA and only got a slap on the wrist from student conduct. I was caught with possession of marijuana (not even half a blunt). I didn't get arrested. I only got a ticket and court date. Since I am a first time offender its likely it will be deferred with community service, fine, classes, etc. I am really scared of not getting into the nursing program/not getting licensure. This one uncharacteristic mistake has made me sick for days. I had only smoked one time before and admitted that to the cop. I was terrified. With a good GPA and TEAS score, do I even have a shot? Will I get drug tested at my arraignment? Will I be able to find a job ( I plan on getting this expunged but I am wondering about if state hospitals will see it) ? My mind is racing. Does anyone have any input/advice/experience?

When the conviction shows up, it'll show on your background check. Hopefully it won't show up whole you're in the program because that'll make it hard for you to obtain a clinical site, thus, finishing the nursing program. Also, once you complete the program, you'll most likely be placed on probation by the state you're a resident in.

If I get this successfully expunged, will clinical sites be able to see it? Do I have to start clinicals as soon as I start the nursing program?

We cannot give legal advice here, but I'd tell you to immediately seek counsel and don't say or write anything more about this until you've lawyered up.
