Nursing school application proccess, HELP!?

Published

Sorry for the long message, looking for help with applying! So after three and a half long grueling years of finishing pre reqs and working full time I can finally start applying to nursing schools. I have literally taken every pre req from stats to psychs to sciences and english's and getting my CNA and so forth. I will be honest in saying my GPA could be way better, honestly I'm just expecting to get declined by every school I apply to because my gpa will be around a 3.2, so I have little hope but am going to apply anyways. So far I know I will be applying to Umass Boston, Umass Dartmouth, Regis, and CCCC since I'm a student there right now and I feel its my only slim chance. So even if your not around the area, what exactly is the application process? I have researched the sites and sent out emails and most require basic things such as common application, transcripts, teas scores, recommendation letters. Is there a specific nursing application I need to get my hands on or do I just send all this stuff in? I know, i know I should be going to schools and asking this question, its just hard working around my 60 hour work week and taking these last three courses, anyone have advice? What was your application process?

Every school has a different requirements for entrance into their program as well as varying application processes. While I think you do need to speak with an advisor at each of the schools you are interested in, you will probably find a lot of the information you are looking for on each of the school’s websites. Just a quick google search and I found a lot of information about how to apply to UMass’s nursing program:

FAQs: FAQs - University of Massachusetts Boston

Information for transfer students (since it sounded like you were transferring): Admission Requirements - University of Massachusetts Boston

I’m sure you can find the same information for the other schools you listed as well.

I understand that you have an intense workload right now, but you have made it this far, don’t stop now! :)

To answer your question about my application process, my application consisted of a personal statement, resume, and Hesi A2 scores. I also had to be already accepted to the school’s undergraduate program before I could apply to their nursing program. I am also a transfer student, so I had to make sure all of my transcripts were included as well.

I made a handy excel spreadsheet with a listing of the requirements needed for each school. Helped me keep everything straight. You'll have to carve out a couple hours of your time to get everything organized.

Each school's nursing program should have a website, and they will have their own applications and list of requirements.

I didn't have a single school require a letter of recommendation, and only one required an essay. The 10 I applied to needed me to apply to the university, apply to the program (each with their own app), send all transcripts, and send TEAS scores.
