Nursing School & Application Help

I am needing some suggestions and/or help. The story is kind of long, so please bare with me. I submitted my nursing school application to 2 ADN programs in my area last Fall. One program I was denied admission to, the other I was given a pool slot. My GPA at that time was a 2.7. Currently...I'm in my last semester finishing my last prereq(chem). My current GPA is a 2.8.

The date for submitting applications for nursing school has arrived again...my problem is I am not sure how to go about stating my reasons for admission. One school doesn't require an admission statement...the other does. I have been beating myself up about this for the last two weeks. I feel like I approached the application wrong the last go around. The applications asks a simple question..."WRITE A BRIEF PARAGRAPH CONCERNING YOUR REASONS FOR SEEKING ADMISSION INTO THE REGISTERED NURSING PROGRAM." Last time I submitted... I listed personal reasons within a short paragraph. Love of people, death of my mother, etc, etc, etc. Well...apparently all my personal reasons didn't help.

Can anybody offer some advice on what they may be looking for? I am thinking it's more like a why do you want this job kind of question. For example....Reasons for seeking admission may be 9 years of military experience...shows adaptability to fast paced and changing enviroments, highly motivated, etc, etc,. I know my GPA is not the best but I know if given an opportunity in nursing school...I would make one hell of a nurse. I have wanted this chance for years. So....if anybody is willing to give me some pointers...I could sure use them.

If you have read this far...thank you!

I know I am not a nurse or nursing student yet...but I'm trying to join you all...I didn't know where else to turn....so please be gentle :imbar

Have you considered retaking classes to boost your GPA? Depending on the area, your GPA can make big difference...nsg school can be very competitive to get into these days...lots of applicants...limited # of slots...not enough instructors/funding

BTW, good luck!!!

This is a good place to start in answering that question. I don't mean for you to use those exact words (maybe the second sentence), but what does nursing have to offer you and what do you know about this school's nursing program?

I wouldn't add really personal things like your mom's death (so sorry, btw), and I'm sure every single nursing school application says that the applicant loves people. What makes you a good candidate for the profession of nursing?

Really, check out the student forum. I'm sure there's gobs of help for you there!

Good Luck!
