Nursing, a humbling Profession

List three things that you have seen/done in your nursing career that has humbled you (good exp, bad exp, funny or sad exp). How has this made you a better person? Thanks for sharing.

I had a pt who everyone said was very difficult, her family complained about everything and she encouraged them. I was assigned to her, after my 2nd day with her , things changed. She became sweet and stopped complaining. Her daughters thanked me every day for the care I gave her. But, I trhink the greatest gift I recieved from her was when she shared her family history with me. She is African-American, I am White. That she would invite me into her world and tell me of the struggles and sucesses. I am indeed humbled and honored. I try to treat each pt as if they were my family. And also remember that each one of us is the sum of our ancestory.
