Nursing, a humbling Profession

Let's face it...nurses rock!! We are intelligent, considerate, conscientious, capable, caring and sooo much more. I also have noticed that nursing is a very humbling profession (From the RN to the CNA). We get into the very private innermost thoughts of our patients. We share their high and low times. It's amazing.

List three things that you have seen/done in your nursing career that has humbled you (good exp, bad exp, funny or sad exp). How has this made you a better person? Thanks for sharing.:D

I had a pt who everyone said was very difficult, her family complained about everything and she encouraged them. I was assigned to her, after my 2nd day with her , things changed. She became sweet and stopped complaining. Her daughters thanked me every day for the care I gave her. But, I trhink the greatest gift I recieved from her was when she shared her family history with me. She is African-American, I am White. That she would invite me into her world and tell me of the struggles and sucesses. I am indeed humbled and honored. I try to treat each pt as if they were my family. And also remember that each one of us is the sum of our ancestory.
