It is not just dependent on the number of hours but also the training that one had and the type of degree or certification.
You did not mention that, as well as where the training was obtained. There are specific requirements for those from different countries.
I have a BSC in nursing and 1.5 years experience. i was just wondering to cover all my bases.

The hours required can actually be found in the Nurses Board of Victoria's website. Now, if you are an overseas educated nurse, you will have to apply to their Board for registration - if that is what you wanted. They will notify you if you are eligible or not. They will assess your credentials and may or may not be advised to undergo a bridging program. You may need to undergo the bridging program if they think the training and education you had before is not enough to conclude that you are competent to practice in Victoria.
I hope that helps a bit.
Thanks for getting back to me. I am a canadian RN so i hope my creditials will be sufficient.
You are welcome.
I have also copied here the process for Victoria which I provided in another thread. I hope it helps you. Should you need further assistance, you can freely message me or reply here. :)
There is also a good thread about the whole of Australia here:

Good luck!
There are two pathways to become a Registered Nurse in Australia or in your case in Victoria.1. Enroll in a pre-registered Nursing degree in any accredited/recognised program of the Universities by Nurses Board of Victoria. Link of accredited Nursing courses in Victoria: http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43901/ac...ses%20div1.pdfHere is another link for accredited Nursing Courses for Overseas Registered Nurses which will lead to registration in the Nurses Board of Victoria:a. http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43913/ac...%20div%201.pdfb. http://www.nbv.org.au/media/50024/ac...eas%20div1.pdf2. Directly applying for Registration in Division 1 at the Nurses Board of Victoria. 2.1. Fill out and print this form: http://www.nbv.org.au/media/43455/in...tion%20app.pdf 2.2. IELTS (Academic) result should have at least an overall band score of 7 with scores no less than the ones indicated below: 2.2.1. Reading & Listening 6.5 2.2.2. Writing & Speaking 7.0 2.3. Prepare all other necessary documents before lodging your application which includes the following: 2.3.1. Evidence of Identity (true copy of Passport or Birth Certificate) 2.3.2. Certified true copy of Transcript 2.3.3. Certified true copy of Diploma 2.3.4. Certificate of initial registration 2.3.5. Verification of Registration (As far as I know, you will need to go to your Country's/State's regulating/licensing Authority and ask them to send Nurses Board of Victoria the said certification) 2.3.6. Work Statement (if applicable)N.B. The Nurses Board of Victoria does not specifically require one to have relevant nursing experience however if you do have, you are required to provide evidence of this. It does not specifically say if the experience would only be recognised if it is from a certain type of hospital (e.g. tertiary hospital). 2.3.7. Evidence of Change of Name (if applicable e.g. marriage certificate) 2.3.8. Enclosed Fee (kindly check the website for the updated fee as this change yearly i think) 2.4. Submit the application including all the documents needed and the fee. 2.5. Wait for the Nurses Board of Victoria's decision. It can be either of the following: 2.5.1. You will be granted registration in Division 1. 2.5.2. Your application will be denied.2.5.3. You will have a conditional offer wherein you will be asked to undergo a bridging program. And upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible for registration. However, if unsuccessful then you will not be eligible for registration. N.B. If your application is unsuccessful, you can be given other options to help you be registered in the said state. This will most probably include taking up any of the recognised courses leading to registration in Division 1.

If you have to do the bridging program in australia before you get fully licensed do you get paid?
The bridging program will depend on your qualifications. Only the board can tell you if you will still need to undergo the bridging program or not. And the only way to find out is by applying to them.
