nursing experience as a student

Hello again

I don't know if anyone else here has this dilemma but is it advisable to add nursing placement as an experience on the resume? If so how can it be best summarized to?

Thanks

You do not place nursing school clinicals on your resume. You were in school and it is assumed your school had you do rotations in med-sure, OB, peds, pysch, and maybe a few other areas. If you did a summer internship I would list that on your resume. I also would list your capstone rotation if you were taking care of a full assignment and feel your capstone will be relevant to the potential job you are applying for

Please do not give out this bad advice! I do hiring and conduct interviews - and YOU BET we want to see where new grads did clinicals!!!!!! Experienced nurses, no, it's not necessary. But when we interview the RARE new grad, the list of clinical sites/departments are the only way we have to assess what environments this new nurse has been exposed to. We don't need details - we know what's involved in clinical work - but a brief listing of what specialties at what facilities DEFINITELY is essential on any new grad's resume.

Thank you for your comment but somewhere i feel my resume is incomplete if i don't brief it out. I will take your advice in consideration.

Hi Mclennan

Its nice to get an opinion off someone who is in the interview process of it all. I am still editing my resume and have mentioned my clinical rotations as nursing student as briefly as possible. I am not a new grad and have 5 yrs in my experience but its is directed towards ENT. However I have to apply in other departments of different hospitals and my rotations as a student is most appropriate to add (as i wish to think). I have posted my resume for comments and advice. It would be great if you could have a look and give suggestions as needed considering you are from the field.

Clinical experience is appropriate on a new grad resume as long as it is clear that it is CLINICAL experience and not working experience. Any CNA work or externships/internships should also be included as should any relevant past jobs.

Thanks for the advice. I'm putting together my resume, and was just wondering the same thing about clinicals.
