Nursing degree with which other degree?

Guys,

So I'm a new grad and a new nurse....I am going to pursue an advance practice degree but I can't help but think about which other degree would compliment by BSN,

Business? MSN?

Law?

Do you guys know of anyone who didn't necessarily do an advance practiced degree in nursing but went back to school and did their graduate degree in something that would compliment nursing?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

It all depends on what your terminal career goal is. Do you want to do nursing administration? Then perhaps an MBA, or a JD. If you want to do advanced practice nursing, then an MSN, if you can complete the coursework before 2015, otherwise, the DNP.

Penn actually offers a joint MSN/MBA program as part of their Healthcare Leadership program and Nursing and Healthcare Administration Program.

I know others who have done MBAs who have gone on to administration, and some who have done the DNP and pursued education. It's really got more to do with your ambitions than anything.

There's absolutely no way to answer that until you know what you want to do with that degree. When you figure out which direction you want your career to take, then you can decide which advanced degree will take you there. You also should have at least a couple years of experience as a nurse to bring the most value to an advanced degree, particularly if it's in a different field such as business or law.
