Nursing in CA

U.S.A. California

Hello everyone Im new to allnurses . I had a question and what better place to find it. Currently I'm in the Northwest, I plan on moving back to CA next yr. when Im done with my prereqs. In the Northwest to be an RN you need to do the CNA but was told by other nurses that you dont necessarily need to. I wanted to know if in CA you need to to have your CNA to be an RN?

Thanks.

No.

You can, and the experience will help you. But it is not a requirement to be RN.

Ditto.. to what tokebi said.

It might be a good thing to have to get your foot in the door somewhere while your in school.

And welcome to the forum!

Hi! No you do not need to be a CNA here but I would certainly recommend doing something like CNA, MA, EMT etc because it will help you get into RN programs and will later help you get hired once you graduate! Best of luck to you!

It depends on your school. My ADN program in San Diego required a CNA class to get admitted into the RN program.
