It's for this reason I dunno how nurses who've been doing this job for 20+ years keep up with it....I'm really at awe at those nurses, they really have some serious fortitude! I've only been a nurse for 2 years and am feeling the effect.....dunno what I'll look like in 20

Then there is the other side. When you make a difference in someone's life. When you are the one that notices a change of condition. When a patient or family member thanks you for your help. When you are recognized in a store by a family member or ex-patient, and told how wonderful you are. When you can feel the warm satisfaction of having done a good job. When a doctor says thank you in an honest tone of voice. When you get a really good evaluation and realize the you are a valuable person who is really important, not only to the organization, but to the world. There are so many more good things about nursing.
There are many good things about being a nurse. I have been retired for about a year and am considering PRN so that I can esperience these things again. You just don't get this stuff when you are retired!

I think part of the problem in nursing is that some people believe in this crap!
Does the word martyr ring a bell?
I don't think it's cute at all.
