Nurses leaving the NHS

I saw this article and it made me think of Martinettes thread which is on-going right now and is a terrible reflection of the NHS today. I left the NHS in 1999 due to the working conditions and only returned because my husband got stationed in England in 2004. Conditions were just as bad then and when we left to come back to the US last year, I was at the end of my tether. I hated the fact that me and my fellow nurses would be put in postions where our licences were frequently in jeopardy and peoples lives were in danger. I ,also, can tell horror stories of patients suffering harm due to a lack of nurses and doctors. So, this article comes as no surprise to me and I don't blame them one bit.

The only surprise I have is the low numbers would have thought it would be more

I left the NHS for the same reasons already cited I have read Martinettes dreadful tale & know what she is talking about! I have to say my current job is good & the workload usually very manageable but the pay is not!!

Soon I will be in those nurses leaving for abroad statistics because I've had enuogh of the UK period! How we can let one of the best professions in the world be reduced to this level is beyond me.

I love my job, there's nothing like it in the world but no-one should have to put up with being treated the way many nurses are! The disparity in pay compared to teachers & policemen is a disgrace.

Yes, I am in total agreement with those packing up and moving on. I qualified as RGN in 2000 an RM in 2004 earn £25000. Two friends who did teacher training and qualified 6 years ago earn £38000 & £45000. I don't begrudge them their salary but I resent being taken for granted in so many ways ie financial, emotional and psychological. The government rely on our devotion to our vocation/career. Well excuse me while I put myself first and walk away from the NHS while I still have strength in my body!!
