NS breaks

Published

I'm not in NS yet but I am wondering do NS schedules normally follow the college breaks, holidays, etc.? The school that is my number one pick is full summer, the first summer, and last half of the summer, the next. So I already know that there would be school in summer but do you normally break like regular college for holidays and between spring and summer, and summer and fall? What about bad weather? If you have a clinical, are you expected to show like you were working or bad weather day like college?

Thanks for the replies.

My program is 5 full-time semesters. We only go one summer but it is three classes split into mini-mesters.

If we are scheduled for a class day and the weather turns yucky and classes are canceled, we don't go to class. If classes are canceled on a clinical day we have to go.

For the most part, we stick to the same schedule as the rest of the university with just a few minor exceptions that are really in our favor. We often get finished with clinicals a week or two before regular classes are over so that is pretty nice.

good luck!

I think many of your questions depend on the individual school's policies. For instance, my full time program had a summer break (wow, it was hard to get back in the swing of things) and we can't go to clinicals when the school is closed d/t weather. Their explanation was that their insurance only covers us when the school is open, so it doesn't matter if we're already at the hospital with the instructor or not.

It will vary, I am in a 4 semester program. We get summer off, the week of Thanksgiving, Winter Break and Spring Break. Than the standard holidays that schools are closed.

We have all the normal college days off, which isnt much. And snow closures ha ha. My school has yet to have one even when every other school in the city is shut down as is most businesses. If you feel it is still unsafe to drive you can call in and tell them that and it is ok.
