Np in correctional facility

Published

Two offer, one is in walk in rural clinic, below 80k. The other is in correctional facility, rural too, above 90k. Another retail may offer me a job too with the number similar to the correctional one 90 or above as it is hourly position.

The first is a little laid back but there are some management issues. The latter is more established. I have heard a lot of good things of working in correctional facility as you can learn so much. I believe I can work in any places like internal, speciality or urgent care later with the correctional facility experiences. But I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed working there too, rules to follow, pressure, security and high acuity such as HIV AIDS inmates.

Any advise? Also this is my first NP job. Any inputs are welcome. Thank you all.

Specializes in ED.

Which place has a good preceptor? Are they willing to take on a new NP or looking for someone more experienced?

Thank you for the reply, the former one give me a supervising physician but I am solo and by myself in the clinic most of the time... The second one has 2-3 MDs on site and. Both is fine wit my new grad status. With rural one most visits are easy walk in but the latter one requires certain amount of procedure such as suturing.

What the heck?! PM me your side biz. I'm thinking of blogging but that might make nothing in advertising.

For the OP, don't open yourself up to exposure with knmate populations. Forget malpractice, as an agent of government, contracted or directly employed, youbset yourself up for suits instigated by pauper's writ, filed in federal court, for violating 8th Amendment (civil) or rights. They are all directly related to not getting the service the inmates thought they should get, and theyndo nothing but suck time and expense. Make sure there's a vetted risk management team in place. You'll get sued on probably a quarterly basis if you have stones. If yourenanpushover, you'll hate your job feeling as if the inmates control you.
