hi guys i graduated last 2006 in the Philippines, work as OR nurse from may 2007-apr 2008, and quit bec. of personal reason, and then go here in the US last mar2009, and took NCLEX RN sept. and thank GOD i pass.:yeah:still now looking for a job, im looking any job. im frustrated :obec. is it really hard to find a job, any advice guys what and where to apply? i called SNF too and still no luck..:crying2:

I feel your pain since we're in the same situation. RN programs are like a lottery and SNF, nursing homes are only hiring experienced nurses. It's possible to get a job if you know someone.

Kaya yan....

thanks but all my family friends and relatives working in the hospitals needed experienced too. good luck to us. do i need a refresher course?

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

Do you have the legal right to work here, yet?

yah i just got aug.

The work that you had back home was it paid experience or volunteer experience? Either way you would most likely be a new grad since if you have one year paid experience. If you don't have paid experience, then it doesn't count. I would take a refresher course since nursing is different here than in your home country. Good Luck

that is paid exprience.how to get a refresher course ?and how much it cost, i dont have any idea of refresher course.thanks

Go to the CA BRN website and look for the list of accredited places that offer CEU's. Some of those places might offer refresher courses. Some junior colleges do offer them, but you have to do your searching to find out which ones do.

That's great that you do have paid experience as a RN. You might want to get documentation from the place where you were employed because that's considered hours worked (even if only for 11 months) and those hours are counted towards your RN I and moving towards RN II. If you end up in a nursing home those hours really don't work towards your RN II, BUT once you get the hours to be considered RN II then you can apply for those positions at the hospital. I would use those hours if I were in that position. Now if you find a new grad position, just keep mum because some hospitals will count that against you and WONT HIRE you as a new grad because they will say that you've already worked as a RN I and will tell you "come back once you get your hours for RN II" which is about 2000 hrs of paid experience working on the floor as a RN. Some hospitals might not care, but most do, so please be careful regarding that. Hope this helps. Good Luck

but when they asked about my experience they dont consider my experience in the philippines.thank you bec. all you said is new to me, bec. in the phil. is really different.so you mean if i am applying for new grad position id rather not to mention my experience? its a little bit confusing thanks

Ok, your last post was confusing. Can you please run that by me again. What I did get was that when "they" asked about your experience, "they" didn't consider your experience in the Philippines as experience. Who is "they" and what position were you applying for? Another thing what was your exact title in the Philippines as a RN? What type of nursing was it? What did you do exactly as a RN? You did say your RN experience was paid, so I'm not understanding why they wont consider that as experience. It could be that it's not a full 1-2 years experience in the same field. I'm unsure, you must be more specific. Sorry if I'm confusing you.

Im RN in the Philippines , and worked in the operating room as RN such as scrub nurse ,circulating nurse , all stuff about OR. bec. practice in the philippines is different , as RN i do all that stuff. btw i mention " they" are some hospital i asked for a job, and one recruiter called me , they want experience is here in USA, . but my cousin told me sometimes hospitals consider my experience, i already my certification from my job from the philippines if ever they asked me. i really appreciate your help. do you think i need a refresher course? bec. now im not still driving .

The hospital in the Philippines PAID YOU, or did you PAY THEM? Yes, I've heard of most agencies wanting experience in the US. From what you've told me, I would go with a refresher course, just to be on the safe side. Right now it's hard to find a job in CA so you might want to make your resume more attractive by getting some extra certifications and also taking a refresher course. Even people who were educated here are having a hard time finding a job. If they wont hire domestic, I don't see why they would hire foreign. Here they don't exploit the RN's by asking them to pay to volunteer so that's out of the question. Contact some local junior colleges and go the CA BRN website and check out schools that offer CEU's, I would start there. Good Luck
