NMC Code of Conduct

Hi, I am a first year on placement and I am really confused with regards the code of conduct. How strictly are you supposed to adhere to it? Is it just guidelines or what? As this is my first placement I would like to know exactly how you relate the code to practice.

It's a code of conduct which sets out how they expect you to behave. Breach it, and you could be struck off the nursing register for ever. I would take it very seriously - it's more than guidelines because it has such an effect on your career if you are brought up in front of the NMC for a breach.

Is there something you have seen in your placement that makes you concerned? Have you spoken to nurses on your placement to get their opinions?

Have you read the actual document rather than just being told the code? May help to, not sure if this link will work but fingers crossed (it displays ina frame so may misbehave, if it does just go to nmc-uk.org and choose code of conduct)

be warned though, may be subject to change in the next few years as there's a consultation going on about it!

Yes I have read the code, and I know it off byt heart. Just wondered how strictly you are meant to adhere to it. Thanks anyway.:nurse:

Its a code which should be engraved on your heart and adhered to strictly................. unless of course you'd like to be struck off!!! Its not that hard to stick to... honest!!
