I'm not sure. They told us the test is just to show where your weakness is. I'm going to school for an LPN.

Moved to the general nursing student discussion forum

We took a NLN test called a Diagnostic Readiness Test that showed us where our weaknesses were so we could study for the subsequent NLN tests. It was not graded. Why are you nervous? Is this test for a grade or does it keep you from continuing LPN school if you don't pass it?

No we don't have to pass it. It just shows where our weakness is for the Nclex. It's like if you pass the NLN it's a good chance you'll pass the Nclex the first time . I guess that's why I'm nervous. I don't want to be a failure either way. But no we don't have to pass it to graduate thank god.

If you don't have to pass the test in order to graduate, maybe you could look at it as a way to alleviate any test anxiety that you might anticipate when you do take NCLEX. Think of it as a practice run---and when you get your results, use them to determine any areas in which you might be weak and focus extra hard on those.

As students, we often approach tests as if they're our adversaries---and in a way they are because we're being tested on what we know and are being graded on that knowledge. But this test is your friend and will help you prepare for NCLEX.

Good luck! You're going to get through this one and NCLEX, too!

I see.

Moogie gave you some good advice above. I can't think of anything to add to what she said.

Go in there and do your best. The test results will serve as a great way to guide your studying. Let us know how it goes Del07! :)

I took the NLN in late December. It is 3 parts: verbal, math and science. I found the verbal to be fairly easy as i read a good bit, most was just word comprehension with a few reading comprehension questions. The math was prealgebra with a heavy emphasis on fractions to decimals and vice versa. The science was really tough. I had maybe about 4 questions concerning biology and the rest was all physics! i have never taken physics.

I did not study for the test because i felt that no matter what i studied the questions will be different.

Maybe practice on some entry level algebra and decimals/fractions. Read up a bit on the simpler physics calculations and brush up on your vocabulary if you are not a reader. I scored 98% on the NLN. I was very happy with that score. My prayers are with you and I wish you the very best score possible :yeah:

There will be plenty of things that you do have to pass later, so why stress yourself over something you don't? If you do want to prepare (NOT the same thing as stressing, BTW), a good first step would be finding out what you'll be tested on.
