NLN Advice

I will taking it next month. I do have the study guide. Can anyone pass on any info or wisdom that they wish they had before taking it?! I am so nervous as my school is looking for a 99 percentile score. Yikes.

Are you sure they are looking for 99% or 99 composite....99% is :o almost impossible, its rare..

The one school I applied wanted 55 I got 84/90

The other wanted 40-70

Good luck

They said 99th percentile which I was told was VERY rare so I called and spoke to someone else who reiterated the same thing. I am going to call again today just to triple check. Yikes.

My school wants 100th percentile which they indicate is 100 score on the composite just to qualify to enter. My CC's nursing school entrance criteria is based on points though and 100 percentile 100 composite doesn't give you any points it's just a qualifier. They said on average they most people that get accepted score over 120 composite. Do a search for NLN we have had a lot of questions about it lately and you might find some good info. I'll be taking it February 3rd so I'm with you--Good luck to you and everyone else about to embark on the NLN path!

Awesome job!! May I ask about how many you got incorrect in each section to get that score?! Thanks.

Raw score, I averaged about 67% correct in each section....I guess not to bad.

I got 90% in science which means I did better than 90% of the people who took the test...

That was the hardest section for me!!

I suggest concerning yourself with the science portion as the math was very easy and you just dont have the time to memorize an entire dictionary for the vocab. I got 98% overall after studying for a month.

99% is the highest overall one can score on the NLN.

That's awesome!! Congrats!!

How was the study guide in regards to preparing you for the science portion?! That is the part making me most nervous as I only had a drop of physics in high school 17 years ago. lol

Well I went to the library and checked out 3 guides to the NLN with their damned 10 dollar deposit for each book. To be honest the guide put out by the NLN people was not nearly as thorough in the science section as some of the others and I dont think it would be sufficient by itself for preparation. I'd get as many as I could from the library and just go over everything in there if I were you. Barrons did a pretty good job on the science section. Like I said just focus on the science mostly and go over the math in the one put out by the NLN people. The Math in the others was way harder than what was actually on the test. Overall I'd say if you do your homework with the guides you wont have a problem. Remember you are scored in relation to how well you did compared to everyone else taking it that day.

I bought the Nusring School and Allied Health Entrance Exams book. Some of it seems to go beyond what we need to know as some sections are very advanced. Is the Barron one written by two women?! I think I have heard of that one. How about the Kaplan one?! Thanks!!
