NJCU - any thoughts?

Published

Hi,

Are there any NJCU grads out there? I'm considering their accelerated BSN program and am curious about what the grads have to say. Also, if I do attend, I'll be at the Jersey City campus. Could you please tell me if students carpool to clinical sites? Any other info is great, too!

Thanks!

To those who sent me a pm, could you provide more info, please? I can't respond to your messages for some reason, but would love more details on the program. Maybe I need to upgrade my membership? I don't know.

Thanks!

I'm not in the NJCU accelerated BSN program but I considered it (I have to work so accelerated programs are out for me). My cousin, however, is in the program. All I can say is that it is REALLY intense!

You also have to be "accepted" back for the second phase and some people were not brought back..I'm guessing they didn't pass.

Hi,

I'm not a NJCU graduate yet but I am currently in the accelerated program. I'm at the Jersey City campus. So far I like the program. As far as carpooling to clinicals, some of the clinical sites are pretty far. I don't drive to clinicals so I take public transportation but some people car pool. If you have any more questions about the program feel free to ask me!

Thank you for responding! Do you have any say in which clinical sites you go to? I live near Jersey City Heights, so I'm not sure how reliable public transportation will be if I have to be at a clinical by 7am.

Where are the sites?

Also, how demanding or time consuming is the program? Do you have to visit the clinical site the night before to look over patient charts?

Thanks again and good luck!!

Some of the clinical sites are very far. For example we have a clinical this semester all the way in south jersey but we also have a clinical in jersey city. As far as getting there by 7am, you have the option of going in the afternoon.

They do give you some say in which clinical site you get. If they are using more than one clinical site for the semster they ask each student which site they would prefere. If you have a valid enough reason they try their best to put you in that site.

The upside is we do not have to visit clincal sites the night before to look over patient charts. The one down side is you may have clincals on a Saturday.

I would say that the program is time consuming because you have to take 23 credits a semester.

I hope I answered your questions. Are you applying for Fall of 2009?

NJ2008,

You must know my cousin..I'll PM you her name..

Thank you for your info! It's making me reconsider applying there. I was planning to apply for Fall 2010 (won't have my pre-reqs finished in time for this fall). I really don't want to travel all the way to South Jersey for clinical sites. I'd just go to school in Philly instead.

Thanks!

I hope my post did not dicourage you! South Jersey was one of the clinical sites, but there was another clincial site closer to Jersey City to choose from. Like I said in my earlier post when there are two sites, you can tell them which you prefere. I take public transportation so they let me go to the one closer to jersey city.

There are some good things about NJCU accelerated program like it is one of the more affordable programs in new jersey and it is only twelve months. Anway, which ever program you decide to apply to good luck!!!:)
