Nicely undermining you.

Yes I know, both words cancel out each other. But have you ever had that feeling that you were being undermined but in such a nice way, it's hard to even tell.

For instance, someone says something nice about your work ethics or related and this other person acknowledges it but finds a fault or some damper to put to it.

Kinda makes you to begin to wonder, if she is really supporting you really. Do you understand what I mean?

it's called a backhanded compliment...very passive aggressive

Southern wisdom: You can say whatever you want about anybody you care to, as long as you follow it up with ,"...bless her/his heart."

My manager is the queen of passive-aggressive behavior...She would say such nice things to you and then throw in a dig in the middle of it all..when I would question her about it she would say"oh just kidding". Hmm yeah I dont think so. I actually have gotten bold enough to do it back to her and say oh just kidding. She has actually stopped doing it so much to me anymore..

FORMER in-laws like that. Finally quit knocking myself out trying to please and got really black/white with them. I took the attitude that I say what I mean and mean what I say and ignored their snide remarks. After a while they found another target - each other! never missed them either.

SIL is the queen... at my wedding - "Wow, I forgot how nice you clean up!"

This has been such a great thread - you hardly notice the poor grammar at all! :)

To the poster whose review included the comment "doesn't polish her shoe laces" that seems to me more like the sort of insult that's really a compliment. ("He sings too loud in church" is how my father puts it for people who are genuinely wonderful.) Your manager may have been thinking "I've got to put SOMETHING in here if it kills me."

I agree fully! :yeah:

Agreed, best to ignore.

I know this is late, but There, there, Sug, Bless your little Heart!:redbeathe
