Hi there,.....for LPN-RN programs I would say go with community colleges like SPC, USF doesn't recognize LPN however, SPC doesn't have a competitive process for the bridge program. It's first come first serve.

Great- Thank you for your help. :)

SPC is a pretty good program from what I can see from co-workers who have been through it.

I have a friend that is going through a private school, and I'll try to get the name. He lives in Clearwater. But it's expensive compared to SPC. Good luck.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could find out which private school your friend is attending. I am torn between SPC & Galen Health Institute.

Thanks so much :)

Hopefully, I can talk to him today. I'll let you know as soon as I find out.

Suebird,

Thanks so much for helping out. I am new to this site & learning my way around. Can you tell me how to post a new thread?

Thank you :)

My friend is indeed attending the Galen Institute in Clearwater. He choose it because it was quick. He can finish up in a year. Also I don't think there were any coreq classes, he can take them right along side the nursing, such as the English and A&P. He got a minority grant and because his mother lives in his home, he can claim a dependent and was able to swing the high cost.

One thing to look at is the accreditation. If one day you want to get a BSN, and you never know what the years ahead hold, the accreditation might not hold up and you might find yourself repeating some of the co-reqs. Maybe not, but something to consider beside the cost.

SPC might have some pre-reqs that might make it take longer to get your RN. Good luck!

Sounds like they are both good programs from what I've heard from co-workers and my friend.

Galen is 14k per year...the first year is LPN and then the second year is LPN-RN, technically they are two different programs. AND if you have any pre-reqs like micro/a&P/nutrition done...you'll pay less for the second year. No, there is no waiting list, but most LPN schools have eliminated waiting lists, PTEC did and from there you can bridge very easily. Also, SPC's last selective process, there were only 20 free spots (with over 100 applicants) and you needed at least a gpa of 3.8 and ALL PREREQs completed. I hope this helps.

Galen quoted me $17,100. for the R.N. program with the pre-recs inclusive in that price. I think this is expensive. I was told by a another lpn I work with that the program is hard & only two people passed boards from the first graduating class. She made it through 6 weeks and could not keep up.

This is a tough decision to make. I will have to do more research.

Hi Tweety-

Thanks for the info. I did get some info on Galen. They are very expensive. ($17,100.) How is your friend doing in this school? I work with a girl who did her LPN at Galen and started the RN but dropped it just 6 weeks into the program. She said it was to much trying to learn the pre-reqs and the nursing all at once. I do not have my pre-reqs done and this is why I thought Galen would be a great school but now I'm not so sure.
