I just want to let you all know that my close friend and I took the test together on Wednesday. I ended at 120 questions and she ended at 87. We both came out thinking that we failed the exam. So, we immediately sped back home and tried the PVT trick. We got the "good pop-up" and we were so happy. We entered all our credit card information and pressed the submit button. (Our cards had sufficient funds too). We figured everyone on AN had nothing but positive results so it must be true. On Friday, while we were at a celebration dinner, we paid for the quick results just for the heck of it. Here's the bad part... I found out I passed but my friend didn't. I don't know how this happened. What makes this even worse is that she had a hospital job lined up to start in two weeks. Now she will not be able to take part in the orientation because of this.
So...just wanted to let you all know since I am the witness to the first official false-positive of this PVT trick and that it DOES NOT WORK.

I'm sorry for your friend's experience. Unfortunately, this is NOT the first 'false-positive'; this has been reported at least two previous times, but (again unfortunately) people like to challenge that result, and insist the people reporting it are wrong
There are many more posts that have 'correct' outcomes, which buries the ones that would have helped people like your friend. I guess all I can say is that maybe yet another 'it can go wrong' post might help someone else have the patience to wait for official results
Sorry!

OP: you have to remember that the NCLEX is scored twice. You need to wait about 24 hours so that the 2nd scoring has been done before you try the PVT. Once you go past 75 questions, you're just above or just below passing/failing and the computer can't decide if you've passed or failed, so it asks you another question and then another until it's 95% sure you've passed or failed. The 2nd scoring is the definitive one and likely uses a slightly different method of scoring as a quality control check of the 1st scoring. Normally they agree. Sometimes they don't. While it is possible to have your results flip from one status to another at 75 questions, it's quite rare. The further away from 75 you go, it becomes more and more possible.
Basically, it's possible and it does happen. The PVT never has been 100% accurate right away... give it about 24 hours and the PVT should be accurate.
I would suggest holding off doing the PVT and just wait the 48 hours for the Quick Results and find out that way if you've passed or failed, if the option is available to you. Otherwise, keep your eyes on your license website or be prepared to "lose" $200 if the PVT is indeed incorrect later...

Aw that is such an upsetting story. The NCLEX is crazy in the sense that it makes you crazy while youre studying for the test, makes you crazy when youre taking it, and makes you have a panic attack while you wait for your unofficial and official results. Please tell your friend to never give up! Hopefully her employer will still hold her a spot in their hospital in hopes shell remediate right away and take it again as soon as her att comes in again. Good luck to you both!
