new points test for nurses in Oz

Hello everyone, i am undertaking a nursing degree and will be a registered Paediatric nurse in three years, when im 33 (July 07). The pass mark was 115 points which i scored, but since april this year it has gone up to 120 points. It is a job on the demands list, and i will be applying for Immigration after my 12 months work experience. I have worked my points out and so far it stands at 115, any advice on this subject would be appreciated!! thanks guys..............sunny 13xx

Hi sunny 13, am I right in thinking that the points you are referring to are in reference to your application for the permanent residence visa, if so are you qualified in a different field ie. hairdressing etc as you get (or did when I went through the whole process) extra points for applying before you are 30. Remember that once you have validated your visa you have five years in which you have to settle here so you'd still have time to complete your nursing degree.

Also as you're probably aware, the points system changes so it may change back in your favour.

Good luck with the whole process, it's not fun but it's definately worth it :)

Thanks Emmy for replying, unfortunately i am not qualified in any other feild on the SOL list, or i could have considered doing what you had suggested. I guess i will have to wait and see, are you orginally from the UK? Yes I am originally from the UK, I lived near Cambridge. I see you are from Wales, my Nan lives in Haverfordwest went there every year as a child it's a beautiful area. If we hadn't of been accepted we would probably of moved there :)

I started off doing the 3yr childrens nursing degree in sept 2002 but changed branch half way through as childrens nursing degree or diploma isn't recognised in australia only adult nursing and mental health nursing...

So unless they've changed the rules I don't think you'll be able to go unless you do adult / mental health nursing :-(
