I am a new grad getting ready to enter into the field of critical care. I am actually comfortable with the idea of this position. I had excellent experiences in critical care through my nursing program. I have been going through the general orientation process for the hospital the last couple of days. Honestly my only real concern is having to deal with my abusive ex-husband (he is an EMT within the same hospital). I just thought there might be a need for a forum for new grads entering new positions.
My very first job as a nurse was at an extended care facility. It gave me respect for nursing home nurses and allowed me to develop the time management skills needed for any nurse. Learning to manage 12-14 patients on my own is something I will always appreciate.
My advice is to never turn down a job because you don't believe it is "important enough". I never had any interest in long-term care, however at the time of graduation that was the only thing I could find in my area. I will always appreciate the opportunity that facility gave me and what that job taught me about being a nurse.

Wait. I'm confused about your post. You say that you worked at an ECF as a nurse but your first sentence states that you're a new grad.
I graduated in May 2015 and was employed at an ECF at that time as a CNA. I received my license in July 2015 and was then moved into an RN position at that same facility.

You stated that your very first job as a nurse was at an ECF. Then you stated that you were a CNA.
Your original post made it seem like you got experience as a NURSE at an ECF. But you were hired as a nurse just last month?
I did have experience as a nurse at an ECF. I started there as a CNA once I got my license they moved me into a nursing position (end of June) I just resigned from that position last week. Yes it is very minimal experience, but very valuable experience. Sorry for the confusion.
