New Grad Programs?

Hi guys! I recently graduated from a BSN program in New Orleans. I started applying for local jobs in December and have no had any luck. After taking NCLEX-RN yesterday, I am now searching again. I've read about new grad residency programs online, but there are none here. I am very willing to move in order to work and am really interested in the idea of a residency program. How can I find out information on these programs? I remember seeing a website claiming to list all of the residency programs available but I cannot find it now. Any help/advice/encouragement/words of wisdom/etc is appreciated! :redbeathe

Thank you! I also found this website: http://www.nurseresidencyprograms.com/.

I am still applying to lots of positions around here too! :nurse:

I am so excited to find out my NCLEX score (tomorrow morning) and begin my career!

Thanks for your reply! :redbeathe

Good luck with everything!! I was fortunate enough to be hired before I graduate (which is in three weeks!!). I didn't find it through a residency, though I did apply for some. I was hired for a regular staff nurse position that even required a year of experience! So apply for everything!!

What area/specialty do you want?

NICEEEE! :yeah: I fell in love with ER, after having done my preceptorship in that department. However, I never hated any department during clinicals and am completely open. Do many people graduate with jobs where you're from?

I'm graduating from a school in Maine. It's really tough right now, because the nurses at our major hospital are working without a contract and negotiations for a new one have been going on for over 6 months. The nurses have already had one strike, and another is in the works. So that hospital isn't hiring many new grads because of this. There are several critical access hospitals that might hire a few new grads. Fortunately, it's a small program (graduating 35) but we do compete with two other larger nursing schools in the area. I would say that less than a third of the students have a job at this point. I am moving to New Jersey and was fortunate enough to land my dream job in a Pediatric ICU. I know it will be tough jumping into a specialty, but I think it will be worth it. Good luck to you! I hope you get your dream job too!

Hey,

I'm new to all nurses and just passed my NCLEX last week :yeah: My husband is also a nurse with extensive ER experience and we're thinking of relocating to the us virgin islands in the next few months.. My husband can work as a travel nurse while we get settled, but obviously i can't as well due to lack of experience, I would like to apply to the hospitals there. Do they take new grads? And if so which hospitals? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated :)
