So I am very torn. I have worked in an Emergency Room for the last 8 years. I am also a paramedic so I have been in a fast paced critical environment almost my entire career. I am graduating from nursing school in May and live in a super small city with only one ER where there is no positions available at this time. So I guess my question is anyone have any suggestions of where I should start my career? I know this sounds like I am being a grump but starting on the medical floor slightly makes me cringe. I just love the ER so much and that's my home. Thanks for your advice in advance.

What about a progressive care unit or cardiac telemetry/stepdown unit? These are faster paced units where you'll see more critical patients, but they're not so critical that they need to be in the ICU.

I agree with PCU.
Also, check to see if the hospitals have residency programs near you. I was just applying to some new grad spots in my area and saw a trauma residency for new grads at one of the hospitals here. Not my cup of tea, but it seems like that would be up your alley.
And, maybe a commute wouldn't be so terrible to ensure you are able to work somewhere that stimulates you.
