New Grad Interviews

I asked this in another forum too... I have an interview at a tpo-notch pediatric hospital for a PICU internship post-grad...and I really want. I think I know they will ask me... but anyone have any ideas for some really awesome questions for me to ask them?? I wanna wow 'em :)

Hmmm well lets see some basic things you want to ask (i don't think this will wow them but still necessary things to ask)

1. How do new grads typically do in the PICU straight out of school?

2. What kind of orientation do you offer the new grads (unless you already know this one)

3. What is the retention of the nurses in the PICU (are they always turning over nurses, do most stick around)

*A good tip* When they ask you what your weaknesses are, make sure to turn it into a positive attribute. Ex: "I'm a little too organized, and I have very high standards for myself, so it makes it hard for me to work with people who also do not carry high standards for themselves" Something to that effect.

Make sure to talk to nurses who work in that PICU. They will be able to give you a feel for what it will be like working with them or for that unit.

nurse : patient ratio

acuity levels

hours...if you are required to do alternating weekends

how long it may be until you could go to days, if you start nights

number of nurses on the unit, how many are on per shift

there are so many but I'm having a brain freeze right now....maybe after dinner i'll think of some more

ok here's more, i hope these help!!

Do you have self scheduling or how is the scheduling done for the unit?

Is call required for this position? If so, what are the call requirements?

What is your management style?

How often are performance reviews conducted and what is your process?

How does this organization feel about continuing education?

How long is the orientation phase and what can I expect?

Will I work with one preceptor throughout or will I have several different preceptors?

Can the orientation phase be lengthened if I feel I need more time? If my preceptor feels I need more time?

How much of the orientation phase will be spent on the shift I will be working?

(i found these ones online) :p
