New GPN

Hi Everybody!

I will be starting in a LTC facility Wednesday. Have orientation. I'm a new GPN. Any words for me, what to expect, what to bring on the first day, etc.

Thanks!

I was a GPN for a LTCF that I did my preceptorship in during school for 2 months after I graduated in March and I'm an LPN now in a different LTCF. It was a fairly easy job being a GPN, all they made me do was help aides and nurses with things such as vitals, assessments, admissions, taking residents to dr's appointments, transfering/lifting, patient care and learning from the nurses on other various tasks. The only things I could not do as a GPN was pass meds, do treatments, call docs, and charting. You should bring a stethoscope, penlight, and pen and paper. When do you take the NCLEX? Good luck with the new job and the NCLEX!

Hi. Thanks for responding. I didn't schedule the NCLEX yet. Actually, I still have to mail out my $200 money order!

Here, we can do everything as a GPN that we would be able to do as a LPN as long as there is a RN supervising. The place I'm going to always has a RN on staff (unit manager/supervisor), so I should be able to pass meds, chart, etc.

I start orientation today. Can't wait! I'm nervous & excited!

Congrats on graduating!!

Definitely bring a small notebook to keep in your pocket. If you can find a 4 color pen bring that as well. Scissors and stethoscope.

Good luck on your first day!!
